What is the Portal Bridge cutover?
The Portal Bridge over the Hackensack River is being replaced with the new Portal North Bridge. During February 15 - March 15, 2026, Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT will transfer service from the old bridge to the new one.
During this period, only one track will be available between Newark and Secaucus, requiring temporary service reductions. Most Midtown Direct service (Morris & Essex, Gladstone, Montclair-Boonton) will terminate at Hoboken instead of NY Penn.
Passengers can transfer to PATH trains at Hoboken to continue to Manhattan.
